Tim Powell is David Bryan in Captain Crash, bringing five decades of musical experience and a master’s touch on the keys. His journey began with the encouragement of his father, a musician himself, who first led him to the piano. Shaped early on by the songwriting brilliance of Billy Joel, the sophistication of Steely Dan, and the artistry of Bruce Hornsby, Tim developed a style that blends technical skill with emotional depth.
Over the years, Tim has performed in a wide range of groups, including SchnAZZY, Good2Go, The Castner-Powell Duo, Steadfast, and various jazz ensembles. Among his most notable experiences was performing as the opening act for Boyz II Men at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, a career highlight that reflects both his versatility and professionalism. Beyond the stage, Tim has collaborated closely with songwriter Helen McMonagle as keyboardist, arranger, producer, and contributing songwriter on several of her albums, showcasing his creativity in the studio as well as live performance.
Most recently, Tim continues to play keyboards in SchnAZZY, a jazz/rock band active in the Lancaster area, keeping his chops sharp across genres. In August 2025, a friend sent him Captain Crash’s post looking for a keyboard player. After auditioning, Tim officially joined the band, stepping into the role of David Bryan and adding his signature touch to the tribute’s rich sound.
For Tim, Captain Crash is more than just another gig, it’s an exciting new creative outlet that allows him to honor music he’s loved for decades while engaging with a new audience.
The band’s sound is both melodic and powerful, and I believe fans will be impressed by our authentic Bon Jovi tribute. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this project!
